The SUAG’s Summer Show – “Only Abstraction” is now open in the Red Cliff Gallery.
The term “Abstract Art in St. George” was always thought to be an oxymoron. Abstract artists generally felt that they “need not apply” when considering to enter local art shows. Well not any more! Forty-six adventurous Southern Utah artists left their comfort zone and “came out from behind the red rocks” to participate in the SUAG’s second annual “Only Abstraction” show in the Red Cliff gallery.
The winning art from the “Only Abstraction 2018” show are:
Best of Show – Gayla Prince Wallace for “Awakening” – Acrylic
First Place – Julie Samuelson for “Abstract II” – Acrylic
Second Place – Darlene Stoddard for “Brushes” – Gouache, Fabric & Beads
Third Place – JoAnn Merrill for “The Bell” – Photography
Christina Kockler Harang for “Illumination” – Oil
Siena Church for “Angel” – Acrylic
Heidi Culley for “Alluring City Lights” – Acrylic
Preben Jensen for “Eye of the Soul” – Stone
Mike Fletcher for “Lifting the Veil” – Acrylic
Paige Martin for “Matter Unorganized” – Mixed Media
The judge for the show was Alicia Lockwood who is on the staff of the St. George Art Museum and is an independent graphic designer.
This exciting and unique show features 176 pieces of abstract art including very small to very large 2D and 3D works from all genres and media. All the art is for sale.
The show runs through August 30th and is open Monday through Friday (excluding holidays) from 10 AM to 5 PM. The Red Cliff Gallery is located in the City Commons Building, 220 N 200 E in St. George.
